Abigail Alcott

Abigail May Alcott (October 8, 1800 – November 25, 1877) was a social reformer, abolitionist, author, and advocate for women's rights. Abigail was the wife of transcendentalist philosopher Bronson Alcott and mother to four daughters, including American novelist Louisa May Alcott. Abigail became one of the first paid social workers in Boston, Massachusetts in 1948.

Abigail's personal writings were collected and edited by her great niece and published in 2012 titled "My Heart Is Boundless: Writings of Abigail May Alcott, Louisa's Mother."

Louisa May Alcott immortalized her mother Abigail as "Marmee" in her acclaimed novel Little Women.

Abigail May Alcott died November 25, 1877.
